Kink Kong Solidario by Santolouco Kink Kong Solidario by Santolouco
This is a piece done for the “King Kong Solidario” exposition. The spanish beneficent event, organized by SciFiWorld Magazine, unite artists from all around the world to pay tribute to King Kong’s 75th anniversary.

The original art will be shown in the Internacional Film Festival of Sitges and will be available in E-Bay for purchasing, after the exposition. The money goes to the organization “Medicos Sin Fronteras” that helps people in Etiopia.

I’m very glad to be a part of it.

Very interesting! I love it! I wish it was on a T-shirt; I like this a lot better than the version on RiptApparel.

No problem!

And oh, I thought it was yours. Did you give him permission to use it? ( Looks like he kinda traced it and edited the foot. )

I gave him permission to use it as "reference", and I also asked him to show some sort of credit. But apparently he forgot.

I did not like the art he did with it, but it doesn't really bother me the fact that he is using it, since he was honest enough to ask me first.

But I also think that if he wants to grow as an artist, he should seek other ways to create his pieces that not tracing other peoples art.

I'm trying to get better at illutrating everyday so I don't have to find another image to base myself on if I need a gorilla or whatever to complete my idea.
I did forgot to give the reference, but someone "reminded me" and now I did. I'm not claiming doing everything about the king kong, because it was based on yours. I didn't ask your permission for nothing. Anyway, thank you.

That's ok, man. But now you know what I was talking about when we first talk.
Is nice that you are practicing, that's the only way to get better at anything, but I'm sure you understand that using a image as reference or inspiration is completely different from tracing or copying it. Nobody need to know how a hamster, for example, exactly looks like, so references are indeed needed for most artists in time to time. So, as said before, if you're going to do a homage be obvious and be transparent or people will think bad of you.

One last thing. You DID ask my permition. Actually this was your line: "I don't wanna play on these horrible grounds so I'm genuinely asking you for permission." Remember?[link]

Anyway, good luck and keep in practicing.

Best regards.

I also made another version where I modified the drawing enough in my opinion that it isn't "you gorilla" anymore. :)

Tremendo! Cuando vi ese título y la imagen, no me imaginaba qué cosa le podía estar trayendo Kong al pobre tiranosaurio como para ser tan solidario…

kikass job on coloring and composition here! enjoying the reds and violets, they seem to balance each other out more or less, but the red seems to take over a bit; that's a good thing cuz i think that emphasizes king kong more.

luving ur style! :+favlove:
